Nicest Kuey Chap

Well, some of us may not know what a kuey chap is, like my friend Wan Lin. When I told her about Kuey Chap, she said, huh...what is it. But it turned out that she just doesn’t know the term but actually know what it is. Still, I believe that there are some out there who don’t even know what it is.

Kuey Chap is made of Flour in very tasty soup and then it is served with a variety of dishes. They include, tau pok, Tau Kua, Egg, salted vegetable, Pork meat, intestine, fish cake and more! So here i have with me a Kuey Chap stall at Bedok North Blk 216, which up till today, is the best tasting stall that I have tasted. You will be served by two brothers, and their Grand Aunt.
Coming to the brothers, one is just in charge of cooking and chopping to serve you a delicious meal, while the other will be doing the manual work like bring it to you, collecting the money from you and stuff like that. The brother collecting the money is fantastic. He never forgets an order, never count money wrongly, and is super fast at counting!

They kuey Chap here is quite different from others because the Kuey itself, which can be thought of like noodles, bee hoon, kuey teow, is very soft and smooth, and the texture is just nice. There are some stalls where the kuey is overcooked and soggy or not cooked enough and the kuey is not as tender. However for this stall, the standard is consistent and over the many times that my family and I visit this stall, it is always just as good. Very Amazing!

The soup itself is equally commendable. The taste of the soup is salty by nature, but the thing it is not excessively salty or excessively sweet. It just tastes too right, and it goes very well with the kuey. It’s like the perfect combination.

Whatever that I have just described is like the very basic and now we come to the extra ‘liao’ or translated to English is extra dishes. The pig’s intestines that are served here do not have a strong stale smell. I believe the stall actually takes great pain and effort to get the freshest meat and even preparing in such a way that is of such high standard. Besides, it also doesn’t possess the rubbery characteristics that are quite common in other stalls that serve pig’s intestine. It is soft, yet not too soggy, and when you bite it, you feel happy munching it! The other dishes like the fish cake, tau pok and eggs, etc are more or less the same standard when compared to other stalls. But I mean, how much wrong can you go when cooking and preparing such stuff.

So much for all the good things. Now, let me tell you some of the bad points. When coming here to eat, it is best to come here on a weekday. On weekends, it is really crowded and quite hard to get a seat. I am not sure what time it opens till, cause we always have it for breakfast or brunch like 10 plus latest. I think later than that, it closes. And beware of the people cleaning the tables. There is this particular guy who just cannot be too bothered and a lot of times, he just sweep the leftover food onto the clothes of the people eating.

I don’t really know how to direct you to this hawker centre as we normally drive here. But i know that if you take a bus or a train to the Bedok interchange, just ask anyone how to go to Blk 216 and you should be able to get there without much hassle.

Srisun Parata Paradise

For anybody who loves good food, this is one place that you should try. I have never heard of this stall before and the only places i know of good pratas are only Thomson and Jalan Kayu. Honestly i just feel that the Thomson one is overated.....but for the sake of the person whom i am quite close to, i shall not comment any further.

Anyway, was introduced to this place by my church members. When they told me that it was very good, i was quite skeptical cause i haven't eaten nice prata for a long long time. However, when the prata came and i ate it, i just had nothing more to say. IT IS GOOD! I tried the sardin murtabak and i only have positive comments. The sardin don't smell, it blends just nicely into the flour and mmmm....it is just very nice. I am not a fan of sardin at all, but i seriously say that it is worth the try.

Then the next thing that i tried was the chicken murtabak. This thing is very very special. It is not like the normal kind of murtabak. I dont know why, but it come in four slices, like roti prata. The picture is the one that is nearest to the text. The chicken in it is very very soft, not too spicy, and it sort of melts in your mouth. It is also not very oily and unlike normal murtabak where the more you eat the more gelak (dont know how to spell this) it gets, this one is the more you eat the more shiok it gets.

They also have this coin prata. I thought it was just ok, but some say that it is very very nice. Well, differenet people have different taste. But it is not too bad, worth a try for the uniqueness. I also tried their Roti John. I would say that it is quite a disappointment. Though the picture itself looks quite good, i hope it is, it is not all that nice. I would say that if you go there, avoid it. It is not worth the space in the stomach.

The best of all that i have eaten is the Cheese egg. It is really so very good! The amount of cheese is just nice, and it really blends in really nicely with the egg. You can feel the cheese literally melting in your mouth and the prata itself is also not too thick. The one at Jalan Kayu or Thomson is not bad also, but they are really pale in comparison with this. YOU MUST TRY THIS!

Anyway, after writing so much, maybe i should tell you where this is! It is at Tampines st 81 Block 822. I don't know what bus goes there, but ill find out for you guys the next time i go. So if at any time u are in the east and thinking of a new place to have supper, drop by this place. It is good!

My FAVOURITE Dim Sum!

As the title suggests, this is my favourite restaurant for dim sum! The name of the restaurant is China Club. It is located at the top floor of capital tower, and it has a really good view of the whole city. They have really nice interior and their service is very good also. It is like for every table or something, there is one waitress assigned to help with the orders, clearing of plates and other things.

All the food there are very very good. Somehow, the quality of the ingredients is really really good and their prawns are really fresh. In my opinion, there are four dishes that u should try when u go there. The first is the Fried prawn coated with mango sauce. ( 4th picture) In the past, they had it coated with avocado sauce, but i think they changed it a while ago. It is really crispy, and after chewing the crispy things, you can actually still taste the prawn and enjoy the freshness of it in the mouth. It is unlike most places which offer fried prawns. Normally after frying you cannot really taste the prawn, but this is different. Besides, the sauce itself really compliments the dish.

The Chee Chong Fan there is also very very good. This is not the ordinary chee chong fan that u taste outside. The skin is really tender, and then in it, it is filled with fried beancurd skin, prawns and a few slices of green vegetable. Don't ask me why they include green vegetable but i guess it is just their style. When u eat this, u can really feel the very power kind of crispiness. I have never tried another one which is half as good as it. Everything about this is just right!

The next must try is the avocado dessert. In the past i never like the taste of avocado. But after tasting this dessert, everytime i come here to eat, I'll surely order it! It is really smooth, and sweet. But for those who don't really like sweet stuff, it may be a bit too sweet. So if that is the case, i suggest that you share with a friend.

The last must try is the seafood soup in the shell of the coconut. I am so sorry that i don't have a pic of it here. The next time i go I'll order it and put it up. The soup has a very good mix of different taste. You can feel the sweetness of the soup, a tinge of seafood and coconut. In the soup, there are different seafood like prawns, scallop and others but right now i can't really remember it that clearly. Though i cannot remember the ingredients in there, i can definitely remember the taste because it is just that nice! YUM!

There are other dishes there also like the Pee tan Chok! Haha, this is bad translation but i guess it is understandable enough. Cha Siew Pao, Siew Mai, Ha Gau, Carrot Cake and many others. You can see some of it from the pictures that i uploaded.

The only thing about this place that it is only restricted to members of the restaurant. So find someone with the membership and try the dim Sum. It is really that YUMMY! That is all for now, when i come across another nice place to eat, I'll put it up!

Haato!

Well, before i write anything, just want to clarify the spelling of my blog. Some people thought that i have a problem with spelling. Occasionally i do, but this particular time i don't! Irresistible is supposed to be spelt this way, but how i spelt it in this blog is irresistable. If we were to to look at it as a whole, irresisTABLECRAVING. Ok, hopefully this explains why i spelt this way.

Didn't have much time to post any entry for the longest time ever, cause i just sleep all my time away and i am really pissed off with myself but ill start to buck up NOW! Anyway, i went to Kuishin-bo on Monday and i was quite disappointed with the food there. Maybe my views are quite bias because prior to going there, i heard that there's a wide selection of sashimi and the food are all very good. However when i was there, i was quite disappointed cause they were not as fresh as what others claimed and the other food were also so-so. I am not saying that it is bad food or what, but maybe to me, it isn't that nice and fresh. The only consolation is that they have very nice chawamushi and this like cold white peanut ball thing. So overall, if anyone is looking for some really nice Japanese food i would recommend that you DO NOT go there.

Coming back to Haato.....

i tried it for the first time yesterday and i think it is very good. I went to the one at Serangoon Gardens. For those who do not know where it is, it is near Cafe Cartel, beside the POSB bank. The place is really very cosy and quiet. Even though i didn't have my ice cream there, i could feel the whole ambience merely by standing there, waiting for my ice cream to be scooped. The staffs at the store are really super warm and friendly. They greeted me with one big smile the moment i stepped into the store. The way they talk, serve, collect money and everything really shows how much Haato values Good service. They probably have the best service among all the places that i have bought ice cream from.

The ice cream itself is just as good and it is really worth the money. If i am not wrong, one scoop is $3.50 and for a double it is $4.50. I tried the cookies and cream and the chocolate banana. The ice cream is smooth and it has a very natural taste. It is very different from brands like haagen daz, ben & jerrys. These brands are normally very sweet and you can sort of feel that there are lots of artificial flavouring and what not added to them. However, both the flavour that i ate tasted really original and there is this very special melting sensation when u put it in your mouth. You've got to go and try it to fully understand what i am talking about. Just an advise...try not to have both flavour at the same time. This is because the taste of the choco way i heard that the black sesame and the green tea is not bad as well. And for those of you out there who like durian, there is a durian flavour! So if the next time you are thinking of a good quiet place to chill out, this is one good place to go!

Pulau Dayang!!!

This is a really very nice place that i went to while on my first and only diving trip in Malaysia. Don't ask me which part of Malaysia cause lots of people have been asking me and until now i still don't know. All i know is that i took a bus for a few hours, stopped, ate Ramly burger, and then continue travelling and transferred to a boat and the boat took us to this place. At first when i heard that it was Pulau Dayang, i was like, confirm some ulu milky water place. And when i went there, i still had this thought because we reached there about 5 in the morning. However, when i woke up, it was a totally different Place. It was awesome. The sky was nice, the waters were so clear, the sand were fine, the food was good, the dives were great and the company was just as good.

Went there for the weekend with my cousin, and we did like i think 5 dives or something. It is a place which is very peaceful and quiet. The first day when i reached, i regretted not bring a hammock along with me. I saw people tying their hammock and lying there for a few hours, just enjoying the sunrise, the soothing sound of the waves and the cool breeze that followed. Since i didn't have a hammock, i just lay on one of the wooden benches, looking up at the clear blue sky, enjoying the beautiful creation of God. This is a really really good place to be with your love one, just lying down, enjoying the peace and quiet.

The food over there is not too bad also, buffet style. But for those who are diving there, try not to eat too much because on the first dive i think i had a bit too much and when i came back from the dive, i vomited all the ewwww stuff that i ate.

The accommodation at this place is rather simple, with all the basic neccessities provided. Though it is not comparable to a 5 star hotel, the whole layout of the buildings, the furniture in it and the presence of the local people really brings us away from the busy and stressful lifestyle that we have in Singapore. If you are thinking of a reasonably priced place to relax and dive, this is surely one of the places that you must go!

My New Blog!

Always wanted to set up a blog, but was just too lazy to get down to it. Anyway, this will be a blog basically on nice food, nice shops and nice places to go to. Though there are many out there who have already set up food blogs and stuff, I am still doing this because i know that there are a lot of really nice places that people have not explored and hopefully my blog will give people an extra alternative to go to other than the mundane Orchard. That's all for now and i will start uploading my photos and reviews on the places that i have been to soon!
